Our Journey: The Story of TempNet
At TempNet, we understand the power of connection. For over 40 years, we've been at the forefront of bringing together independent staffing firms across the country, creating a supportive network of business owners who are passionate about growth, innovation, and success.
It all started when ITSA (Independent Temporary Services Association) was incorporated on January 11, 1977, and it's first meeting was held on May 10, 1977. ITSA's founder, Wayne Josephson, had spent many years with Manpower and could discuss problems with those agencies, but missed being able to do that once he became an independent temporary. ITSA was formed for that reason, connection and problem solving.
Several companies were recognized as Charter Members at that time:
- Long’s Temporary Services – Alabama
- Landrum Temporary Services – Florida
- Omaha Temporaries – Nebraska
- Creative Temporaries Corporation – North Carolina
- Sooner Temporary Services – Oklahoma
- Tulsa Temporary Service, Inc. – Oklahoma
What began in 1978 as a small gathering of like-minded professionals has flourished into a nationwide association where collaboration and learning take center stage. Our members share insights, strategies, and resources that empower their firms to thrive in an ever-changing industry. In 1986 ITSA officially changed its name to TempNet.
The objectives back then were very similar to those of today:
- Establish a strong association of independent temporary services,
- Provide a referral service for customers and employees between members, and
- Restrict membership to one service in each market area.
