Arthur Rendal, Aimco
Arthur Rendal, President of Aimco, prepared the following “love letter” about TempNet.

1. Most daring experience at a TempNet Conference: Skydiving from 10,000 feet over Palm Springs to get a better view of our conference site.

2. Most enjoyable experience at a TempNet Conference: Participating in a Mardi Gras Parade in New Orleans organized by Dave Lawrence and seeing all those bare boobs when ever you threw your bead necklace successfully over a local woman’s head.

3. Most ugly moment at a TempNet Conference: Seeing double after drinking six Hurricanes at Pat O'Briens in New Orleans, after the Mardi Gras Parade.

4. Best meal at TempNet – 5 lb. lobster in Montreal

5. Most anxiety at a TempNet Conference: Montreal, the first Canadian Conference, because I organised it.

6. Most benefit gained from TempNet Membership: Having a member friend know someone who could get me INDY 500 tickets in the Penthouse Suite just three feet in front of the 'Yard of Bricks'.

7. Most knowledge gained from TempNet Conference: Attending any CEONet meeting. It’s great to share information.

8. Most embarrassing moment at TempNet Conference: Lip sync to the Beatles in Nashville for Region 1 to beat out Tav's gang (Region 2) in competition.

9. Most time spent travelling to get to a TempNet Conference: 18 hours, Toronto to Reno for the Lake Tahoe conference. Went straight into the Bill Derosa led 'What's Working for You” and got the prize for best idea. Then I was politely asked to 'Go take a shower'!

10. Most time taken to return home from a TempNet Conference: 20 hours, Palm Springs to Toronto with a very irate daughter. She was late for her 18th birthday party which had been organised by her friends.

11. Most fun at a TempNet Conference: Riding with the Harley gang. Having the wind in your face and the freedom of the open road astride a wonderful machine made by Harley Davidson. Why would anyone NOT want to be a TempNet Member?

12. Best reason why I am still a member after 9 years in TempNet: Because where would you find such a wonderful group of business professionals who love their industry, share their beliefs and ideas and treat you like their best friend?

Carolyn Boteler, Tempstaff
I would give up many things before I would give up my TempNet membership. The friendship and networking opportunities among the membership is irreplaceable. Anytime I need expertise in any area, I rely on my TempNet friends. TempNet is all about participation. For the past seventeen years, I have utilized my membership to the fullest extent. Because of this participation, my company, my staff and myself have reaped the benefits of a wonderful organization.

Brenda Larson, TempWorks Software
TempNet has been a great experience for our
company. As an associate member, we have been given great opportunities
to share our business with the members of TempNet as well as learning
from so many who play very influential roles in the industry. TempWorks
was a first time exhibitor at the 2002 annual conference in Baltimore
and couldn't have been more please with the event. The members
displayed genuine interest in learning about our business, providing us
with feedback and including us in conference events. We have been very
impressed with the commitment of those involved in the organization as
well as the value they strive to bring to both members and associate
members.

Nancy Wenzel, Working World Staffing
When you own your own business, you can sometimes feel like you are on an island. What is the best way to train a sales person, how do I motivate my people to be more proactive, how can I get past that receptionist to the H.R. Director?? As a Tempnet member, all I have to do is pick up the phone or e-mail one of the other members and simply ask the question. I will get a few different answers, all with sound advice and practical experience behind those answers, and the rest is up to me. It is truly like having a steering committe in your very own conference room. It would take 2 lifetimes to gain the expertise and experience that these members have, and we are all willing it share it! Being a member of this extraordinary group is truly a no-brainer! My business is better because of Tempnet

Eileen Wheeler Sheehan, ABLE Associates INC
Where else can you get the unvarnished feedback of 40 or 50 executives who have already faced your issue and succeeded? And have fun while you’re listening? Nowhere.

George C. Roper, Roper Personnel Services, Inc.
Our membership in TempNet helped to significantly increase our business well over 1000% during our first 10 years. We have considered it to be our greatest business asset although it does not appear on our balance sheet.

Edward A. Seitz, President, Shannon Staffing, Inc.
Our TempNet membership is a valuable asset for our company. The conferences are targeted to the needs of the independent staffing owners.

More importantly is the access among the companies, managers, and owners. Got a question? You can call Jill on one coast; Greg on the other; or Darlene in the Midwest.

I have found that the value of membership has increased as I've become more active in the organization whether as board member, regional VP, or committee chair.

I encourage eligible companies to apply for membership and those who are members to become more involved in their organization.

Suzanne Hodes, , CPC, CTS, CAREERXCHANGE
When Jean Larsen asked us to submit an article or news for Region II, I sat back and said, “what is there to say. Business stinks.” Almost everyone is in the same canoe rowing like crazy upstream. However, I thought about it some more and realized we had been here once before and that was in 1995. At that time we were a “little TempNet baby”. We had just finished a great year and then wham, we lost our three largest accounts. Our sales had taken a nose dive and personally, I was having my own challenges. When the two collided, I thought we were in deep doodie. We came to the TempNet Annual conference and I sat down and had “a heart to heart” with someone I knew and respected. As a direct result of that meeting, Sue and I sat down (Nick wasn’t in the picture yet) and looked at our “baby” (our company) and ourselves. We realized that we couldn’t keep operating the same way. The methods we used to get things done were no longer effective and were more time consuming than ever. We knew we needed a change or we wouldn’t be able to continue. The last straw was my health and Sue’s. Once we saw how it was directly affecting us, we tackled the problem.

The problem was that up until that time almost everything in the company revolved around us. If we were having a bad time, so was the company. We needed to change this spiral. We decided to “build an organization” that could stand on its on feet, with or without us, and weather the storms. Deciding to do this and getting this done were two different things. This is not something you can do over night. Now, “our baby” has grown up and it doesn’t look anything like its parents. In the last seven years we successfully merged, taking on a new partner. We acquired two other companies and built an organization which is still work in progress. We (the owners) still make a lot of “rain” but we are well into the process of building an organization with a management team and sales team to continue to build on the future.

Bottom line, we have many TempNet friends who have helped us along the way. There have been countless times that Sue, Nick or I have picked up the telephone and called one of our TempNet buddies and said “Have you ever had this problem? How did you deal with it?” Many TempNet buddies have been our unofficial “outside unpaid directors”. During good and bad times you have been there for us. I hope some day we can repay you other than saying, “THANK YOU.”

Jill Tillinghast, Owner and Chief Executive Officer-Personnel Preference, Inc.
Joining TempNet in the summer of 1994 was the best business decision I ever made. When I attended my first conference I was absolutely astounded at the wealth of information freely shared among members. I gained more knowledge in my first TempNet meeting than in several years of attending state and national association meetings! In addition to the accelerated learning curve provided by TempNet, I have made valuable friends and business contacts across the country. My company has grown in sales and profits and I have grown professionally as well as personally from my membership. I would recommend TempNet without reservation to any independent staffing firm interested in improving their bottom line, running a quality company, and growing their staffs and themselves professionally.

Steven A. Odell, CIC, Senior Vice President, CLAIR ODEL GROUP
Clair Odell Group has been an associate member of TempNet for the past six years. TempNet has been and continues to be one of the premier sources of business for our organization which specializes in risk management, loss control and insurance services to the staffing industry.

TempNet membership affords our clients access to peer group information and relationships on a national basis unparalleled within the staffing industry. We clearly have witnessed the difference that TempNet membership provides to those staffing companies that are affiliated with the group versus our clients without association affiliations.

My TempNet clients continue to be some of my best and most profitable customers.

I would be more than happy to discuss with any potential candidates the additional benefits that I feel a TempNet affiliation can offer.
